The beating heart of our direct drive turntable is powered by an advanced motor, inspired by the coreless direct drive motor initially designed for the groundbreaking SL-1200G in 2016. This motor has not only been refined but also enhanced for superior performance. The newly developed double coil twin rotor-type coreless direct drive motor boasts coils on both sides, enabling a 12-pole, 18-coil drive with exceptional torque capable of effortlessly spinning the heavyweight-class platter, weighing approximately 7.9 kg.

Innovatively, the coils on both sides are offset by 60 degrees, significantly enhancing the substrate's rigidity. This design minimizes fine vibrations and reduces self-inductance, resulting in a remarkable achievement of stable rotation with a wow and flutter of 0.015% or less—an accomplishment considered to be at the measurement limit. Moreover, the thrust bearings that support the substantial platter utilize a specially engineered plastic, ensuring a perfect balance between high rigidity and unwavering reliability. Suppressing Unwanted Motor Vibration

The genesis of our direct drive motor traces back to the innovative design of the SL-1200G's motor. Serving as the foundation, this motor evolution incorporates a dual-coil system, robust thrust bearings, and a reinforced chassis, resulting in a stabilized motor boasting a low center of gravity. A pivotal aspect of this achievement involves strategically placing two stainless steel weights, known for their high rigidity and specific gravity, at the chassis's base. This meticulous arrangement ensures the maintenance of both rigidity and a low center of gravity. By implementing these comprehensive measures to mitigate unwanted vibrations, we've achieved a level of rotary precision that is truly unparalleled, contributing significantly to an improved signal-to-noise ratio. Heavyweight-class Turntable Platter

Our turntable platter employs a unique design strategy by integrating tungsten weights, renowned for their exceptionally high specific weight and processing challenges, onto the outer periphery of a 10-mm-thick brass weight. This brass weight is meticulously laminated onto an aluminum die-cast, resulting in a platter with a substantial total weight of approximately 7.9 kg and an impressive inertial mass of around 1 ton·cm. Taking vibration control to the next level, a specialized deadening rubber is applied to the rear surface, creating a sophisticated 3-layer construction. This approach enhances the platter's overall rigidity and endows it with outstanding vibration damping characteristics. Through this meticulous combination of materials and construction, our turntable delivers a harmonious blend of precision engineering and innovative design, ensuring an audio experience marked by superior performance and minimal interference from unwanted vibrations.

Separate Control Unit

Our commitment to pristine audio quality is evident in the meticulous design of our turntable system. The control unit is strategically separated from the main unit to effectively mitigate the impact of unwanted noise on the primary components. The quest for a power supply circuit that ensures optimal regulation for high torque led us to implement a switching power supply. To further elevate the audio purity, our switching power supply incorporates an innovative "unwanted noise reduction circuit," delivering a voltage supply with minimal interference. This newly developed technology aims to reduce noise reaching the pickup, preserving the integrity of the audio signal. Moreover, our communication system between the main unit and control unit employs a highly reliable architecture resistant to external noise, ensuring minimal disruption even during data transmission. These comprehensive noise reduction measures collectively contribute to achieving an unparalleled signal-to-noise ratio, placing our turntable system at the forefront of audio excellence on a global scale.

Minute Adjustment and Indication of Rotations

Our versatile turntable goes beyond the conventional, accommodating not only LP (33 1/3 rpm) and EP (45 rpm) analogue records but also the less common SP (78 rpm) format. Adding to its precision, the rotation speed (rpm) can be finely tuned down to two decimal places, offering a customizable range of up to ±16% from the control unit. The OLED display, a window into the soul of the turntable, mirrors this precision with accuracy down to two decimal places, providing users with both audible and visible confirmation of the remarkably exact rotation. High-sensitivity Tonearm

Technics takes pride in its time-honored approach to achieving precise tracking of record rotations by employing the static balance S-type universal tonearm. This tonearm features a lightweight, high-damping magnesium tonearm pipe, ensuring meticulous tracking of the record's grooves. The gimbal suspension construction tonearm incorporates high-precision bearings, contributing to its exceptional performance. The assembly and adjustment of these tonearms are entrusted to highly skilled Japanese craftsmen, who meticulously craft each component to achieve a heightened initial-motion sensitivity. This precision allows for the accurate tracing of the intricate grooves etched into the records. Internally, the tonearm is wired with OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper), ensuring that the music signal relayed from the cartridge remains unimpeded. This design choice preserves the musical energy embedded in the record, producing vivid and lifelike sounds. Tonearm Base

The integration of the tonearm base with the turntable is a hallmark of our design philosophy. This integration ensures a robust connection between the turntable part and the mounted tonearm. By maintaining a consistent relationship between the tonearm bearings, turntable bearings, and needle position, our construction minimizes the impact of vibrations caused by the rigidity of the turntable base materials. This meticulous approach creates a structural foundation where the performance of the tonearm is maximized. For those seeking further customization, an optional tonearm base is available for purchase. This option expands compatibility beyond the standard tonearm, allowing users to mount existing short or long-type tonearms from respected brands such as SME or Ortofon—providing flexibility for up to three tonearms, including the standard configuration.
