In production since 2016, the SL-1200G combines traditional Technics analog technology with modern digital solutions using redesigned components. The performance of this direct drive turntable revolutionized the hi-fi market, making it the standard in its class. Components inherited from the SL-1200G have been newly developed for the SL-1200GR, ranging from the coreless direct drive motor and fine motor control devices to eliminate the problem of torque ripple that negatively affects rotation uniformity. In addition, the device uses a durable and sensitive tonearm, characterized by low vibration. All this made it possible to achieve a quality that is significantly superior to conventional devices in its class. With the SL-1200GR, more and more music lovers can enjoy the rich, rich sound of analog recordings.

Coreless direct drive ensures rotational stability

In 1970, Technics introduced the world's first direct drive turntable to the market, gaining worldwide popularity. Unlike belt driven systems and the like, in direct drive systems, a slowly rotating motor drives the platter itself. This solution has a number of advantages: for example, it allows to reduce the signal-to-noise ratio arising from engine vibration and deceleration mechanisms to almost zero, and it is also distinguished by high durability and reliability without requiring replacement of components.

In 2016, Technics developed a two-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct drive motor with rotor magnets placed on both sides to eliminate torque ripple, the rotational unevenness that is common in direct drive systems. This engine is also used in the SL-1200G model, which has also gained popularity in the Hi-Fi equipment market. Based on the same principles, the SL-1200GR turntable has a single-rotor, coreless, direct-drive motor that is also ripple-free.

Precision motor control technology for ideal spinning conditions

The SL-1200G uses a control system that controls and regulates the rotation of the motor, which was previously used in Blu-ray disc players. To control the waveform at a constant speed, sine waves are used, recorded in the ROM; this provides smoother and more stable rotation than simply generating a sine wave with an external coil, as in the SL-1200MK5. In addition, the electrical circuits of the SL-1200GR motor are tuned to ensure maximum efficiency of the unit. When starting, the single-rotor engine develops a torque of 2.2 kg·cm, accelerating to 33 1/3 rpm. in just 0.7 seconds (same result as SL-1200G).

In pursuit of durability and lack of vibration

The dual-layer platter design with an additional layer of rubber on the back provides strength and improves the damping characteristics of the platter, eliminating unwanted resonance caused by the record. All this contributes to the purity of the sound. The shape of the die-cast aluminum part was selected based on simulation to increase the inertial mass and reduce vibration. The SL-1200GR's platter weighs 2.5 kg (with rubber mat), which is 0.8 kg heavier than the previous platter, the SL-1200MK5. In addition, reinforcing ribs are placed on the reverse side of the platter to increase rigidity. The increased rubber contact area more than doubles the cushioning properties of the SL-1200MK5.

Tonearm providing high sensitivity at the beginning of the movement

The tone arm tracks the rotation of the record and allows you to read the signal with high accuracy. The turntable uses Technics' signature statically balanced aluminum tube S-shaped tonearm, which is lightweight and durable.

As in the SL-1200G, the tonearm is mounted on a cardan suspension and precision bearings in specially cut-out cages. Hand-assembled and adjusted by high-class Japanese craftsmen, start-of-motion sensitivity of 5mg or less is achieved, allowing the tonearm to perfectly follow all the curves of the track on the record.

In addition, one additional weight is included in the kit, which allows you to replace the pickup with another one that is more appropriate for the genre of music you are listening to. (Cartridge weight when using the included additional weight: 10 - 16.4 g [without cartridge, also included])

High quality and elegant looking connectors

The player uses gold-plated connectors for audio transmission, to which cables of various types can be connected. In addition, the presence of a metal screen inside the case reduces the impact of external noise.

Rugged housing and silicone dampers for pure sound and vibration isolation

The SL-1200GR uses a durable double-layer aluminum frame body combined with a 3D molding material. As with the SL-1200G, the vibration dampers on which the SL-1200GR's turntable is mounted use special silicone rubber to provide both excellent vibration absorption and long-term reliability. Cylindrical amplifying tubes made of microcellular polymers are used to absorb horizontal vibration. Vibration dampers are borrowed from the SL-1200G model, but their design has been changed specifically for the characteristics of the SL-1200GR.

In addition, the mounting portion of the insulators contains a vertical adjustment mechanism using screws, which eliminates the wobble that occurs when the player is mounted on a rack or similar structure and prevents unwanted vibration. In addition, precise horizontal alignment of the platter and record surface reduces rotational unevenness caused by skew, further enhancing playback stability.
